Our favorite part about this market is the passion that started the whole thing.....wanting to encourage people in what they do well. We believe creativity is a God given gift & when people respond to that creativity then people are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing. And people are blessed all around by it.
We also began to see that these creative people were generous people. Many use their gifts to help others. When you come to shop on Saturday you can feel good knowing that so many want to make a difference & they are using their gifts to do that.
*Jennifer Tanksley & her family are digging a well with Charity Water....so those birds you have wanted so badly...10% of her art sales will help build that well.
*Wendi brings goods from 10,000 villages to support fair trade.
*Heath supports the ministry Takes A Whole Village in Tanzania with all of her sales.
*the Neema shop (davis' boards) also supports Takes a Whole Village with a portion of those sales
*Anne Mason & friends' craft table & african knitted items will help to send 6 Kenyan kids to high school.
*the Cupcake Kids bake their yummy treats to support the children of 60 feet in Uganda.
And i'm so sorry for any I have missed!!!

Anne Mason & her family took a trip to Kenya this summer. They came back changed & committed to send 6 high schoolers to school. Anne Mason & some friends will have a gingerbread man craft available for the kids which may just help you have a free moment to shop! All of the proceeds will go towards reaching their goal of helping these kids in Kenya.
And take a look at these gorgeous knitted beauties...made in Africa...also to support these kids & the ministry. Check out that elephant cruising in Ellie's backpack in the airport! Awesome.
I love watching peoples hearts desire to help others. And you get to play a part..all while getting gifts for the special people in your life.

If you don't know the Yumbii truck, well then you've missed out on something straight from Heaven.

Have you ever had sesame fries?? No? Well, get ready because that awesome truck is going to pull right on up to the Garden Market on Saturday for the lunchtime hour(s). I'm a food truck fan. I love the concept & the food. Mobile food that tastes awesome? It has always had my heart. We are so excited that Yumbii will be with us on Saturday so plan to bring the family down for lunch, some Christmas shopping, meet some amazing people & let the kids run around on the playground & if you have no kids in tow...great, grab that red cup & head on over....you'll be so glad that you did!!! And we can't wait to see you Saturday!

10,000 Villages

Another way to do good. I love businesses that are founded on a passion for something bigger & better & right. 10,000 Villages is a non profit store built on the premise of fair trade. It sells hand crafted items from third world and developing countries from around the world. The artisans that make these amazing products are given a fair price for the product and 50% of the money upfront so they will not have to take out a high interest loan to keep a business going. This enables them to feed their family and send their kids to school!!!

Wendi will be bringing some items from our local 10,000 Villages, and if you miss it you can visit the store in VA- Highalands!!

What a great idea!!!! Rumor has it that GA/AU is this Saturday.....why not place an order for pick up on Saturday at the Garden Market???? These would be perfect for tailgating or for that football party you're planning to have later in the day. Or if you are like me at all ... just pick up a few to snack on for the week & just tell people you're having a massive football party And keep in mind for all those sporty themed birthday parties that will no doubt be happening year round. I am partial to the march madness so I'll remembering these basketballs when all of that rolls around.

Davis is bringing her painted boards again this year & has added a few new items to the collection!!! Her personalized orders are winding down so if there's something you need for Christmas go ahead & let her know as she will be packing up for several weeks to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving & Christmas with her family. They say they have missed her :). I'm especially excited that Neema's mommy (the Neema shop namesake) will be a vendor this year at the Garden Market! A portion of my sales always go to help Heath's ministry Takes A Whole Village (TAWV). Can't wait to see you on Saturday!!!!!!

One of our favorite parts about this Market is the people. Many of the vendors are using their gifts to support a ministry that they are passionate about. We have mentioned those ministries in previous entries & will continue to let you know all about these amazing people you will be meeting at the Garden Market on 11/12. One of those people is Rebecca O'Mara with Intown Sundries. Her soaps are wonderful & I am saying that as someone who has bought them for myself & others. 15% of the proceeds from the sales with Intown Sundries will go towards the Belt Line Bike Shop. You should totally check out their story & their journey with the Bike Shop. I tell their story all the time.....it's a story that makes me want to move forward. Very inspiring & exciting to see great hope in our city.

Cupcake Kids

The Cupcake Kids will be with us again this year - baking yummy, adorable cupcakes & on a mission!!! Not only will they have the most adorable cupcakes sold by the most adorable kids, but also Ugandan magazine necklaces that were made in one of our remand centers by some of the girls, hand painted ornaments, SixtyFeet shirts, Cupcake Kids shirts and headbands. SixtyFeet is an action-based organization created to bring hope and restoration to the imprisoned children in Uganda in Jesus' name. The Cupcake Kids is the fundraising arm, created by the children of the board members of SixtyFeet. They are little people with big hearts for God and the imprisoned children of Uganda.

Brambles & Vines is a collection of home décor creations (mostly wreaths) using vintage, repurposed, and natural objects. Each item has a special twist and a story to tell.

Made-to-order requests are welcomed—if you have vintage collectibles or other special mementos tucked away that you’d like to bring out of hiding, they can be made into an artful composition that will frequently make you pause, live in the moment, and smile.

I am inspired partly by these thoughts from folk artist Howard Finster:

Nancy is whipping up some cool burlap runners & it's like she read my mind! I have needed something just like this for my buffet! It's so perfect. And can we please sit down & have a conversation about how this girl puts fabric together!?! She's a genius. I'm convinced. I have seen the skirts & I don't think it would be crazy to order 1 of each, please. She has limited fabric for many of these skirts which is great because not everyone can get the same one....but it stinks because you better grab your coffee & get there early.

WE LOOOOOOOVE INTOWN SUNDRIES!!!! The soaps are AMAZING. I gave them as gifts last year because another vendor at the market raved & raved about how great they were quality-wise & how wonderful they smelled. I was sold......& I'll be buying again. Missy is another wonderful local artist & we're excited for you to meet her & see the beautiful things she makes...one of my favorite things about her bracelets in particular is that all ages can love them. My girl, me and my mom. She's going to help me shop for most of the women in my life!

Takes A Whole Village is a non-profit based out of Atlanta. In 2009, while adopting her little girl, Neema, in Arusha, Tanzania, Heath DuPree saw a great need among many other children in the dirt covered villages of Tanzania. In response to such poverty and hopelessness, she set up a home for them with a housemother. Through the purchases of handmade sandals and scarves and the generous donations of others, she is able to provide them with 3 meals a day, minor medical care, English Medium Education, and a chance to hear about a God who created them and has a purpose for their lives. The products are made by hardworking Tanzanian artisans and thus not only does 100% of the proceeds go back to the organization, we are also supporting the local people. Jennifer Tanksley has quite a following...and she's been with the Garden Market, I believe, from the beginning. Her paintings mean so much to people & the inspiration behind them draws people in. They are pure & they are wonderful. Jennifer is the mother of 2 awesome boys & also teaches in addition to her painting. One friend in particular received her 2 bird paintings & called me squealing with excitement :). She paints more than just birds & in several different sizes - perfect for a wall or even for a bookshelf. I can't wait to see what she brings with her this year!

Betsy Clayton Jewelry

My girls would have a full collection of Christina's headbands if they had their way.....and they're not far from it! Crazy cute & very comfortable. I love the ones with navy the best because we can throw them in on the way to school & they match all those navy uniforms! My girls prefer the ones with the pink :). Many friends have received them as birthday gifts & I see them wear them all the time. Get to the Market early this year as she will have a few (& only a very special few...I have spied them with mine own eyes) very special brand new headbands that will be incredibly limited in number!!! Perfect stocking stuffers.

All I know is that Nan pretty much sells out of her skirts by noon. I cannot wear either of mine out without having several people comment on how great they are. In fact, the 1st time I saw one of her skirts I made the assumption that she had made a trip to Anthropologie! Nancy has incredible taste & quite a following...so you'll want to get to the market fast! And all you Heritage Auction folks....hold onto your catalogs because she is one of the vendors offering a discount at the Garden Market - but you'll need to have your Heritage Auction catalog in hand.

I still can't believe this fun Market has been going on for 8 years! It has become a tradition for us...and for many others. One of those things that you just make sure you get to do before all the crazy holiday hoop-la begins. This market is really like walking into a room full of potential best friends. Each vendor has a great story to tell & you often see a little glimpse into their hearts through the work they have brought with them. One good friend is sharing a table with another friend that I have gotten to know through the Garden Market & I told the one friend about the other, "you're going to be so glad you got to know her".... And that's the way this thing seems to go. You'll walk away glad you came & not just because of the amazing find you're carrying with you but because you were a part of something that is living.....so many of these people use their gifts & talents to be a blessing for others. Just wait.....it's inspiring. It always is. And I'm looking forward to seeing you there!

And the friend who introduced me to the fabulous Stephanie Bradac - (Nancy Hutchins of a Bird's Nest)- said the exact same thing. So there you have it.....a life transforming creation right here. We are thrilled that Mostaza Seed is back for round 2 at the Garden Market!!! They were a huge hit & if you somehow missed them last year, it was only because there was a constant swarm of people around their booth.
